Big Ben is the tower clock at the Houses
of Parliament. It is one of London’s top
attractions. Big Ben is the name of a big bell inside the tower. Tourists can visit
Big Ben and go inside on a 90-minute tour.
They can go up 334 stairs to see the clock
mechanism room. The big bell, called the
Great Bell, makes a loud sound every hour.
There are also four small bells that ring every 15 minutes. The tower’s name is The
Elizabeth Tower. It is 96 meters high. The
clock is very heavy. It weighs five tons. The
pendulum of the clock is 4 meters long. The
Great Bell was made in 1856. Sixteen horses pulled it to the Houses of Parliament.
