Gideon Sundback was born in Sweden in 1880.
He studied electrical engineering in Germany.
He moved to the United States and worked for the Universal Fastener Company.
He studied the problems of earlier fasteners and improved their design.
In 1913, he designed the "Hookless Fastener No. 2."
In 1917, he received a US patent for his improved fastener.
He invented a machine that made continuous, large-scale zipper production possible.
The zipper became widely used on many products and changed everyday life.
